"Bùrach
exploded onto the scene some years ago with their debut album
'The Weird Set'. Now, some line-up changes later, comes 'Born
Tired', their second album. Again, the energy which characterised
its predecessor is somewhat manic, but now they are playing
like a real band. There is no spare baggage here - only a tight,
greased lightning unit playing hell for leather.
Ali Cherry's vocals have blossomed into awesome proportions,
if 'How On Earth' and 'Ring Around the Moon' are anything to
go by. Musically, they play with a barely controlled fury. 'The
Funky Fat Challenge' merges funk and traditional music so well
with cast iron tautness. The title track offers a gentle melancholy
air, while 'The Highfield Set' blazes away. Burach, when on
form, are simply unstoppable and 'Born Tired' succeeds in blowing
out the cobwebs like an express train. Superb."
