Both Sides of the Tweed
This song has become indelibly linked to Ewan. As a borderer growing up beside the Tweed, both the song and theme are important to him. The original song was written by James Hogg, the Ettrick Shepard, in the early 19th century and calls for an understanding between the two nations separated by the Tweed and an end the petty nationalism of his time. A theme that is still current today as a great many people still view the ideas of national identity and history in the same romanticised narrow minded way they did in Hogg’s time. The song was reinterpreted by Dick Gaughin around the time of the first referendum on a Scottish parliament in the late 1970s........... Listen to MP3 clip here (1.2Mb)

"Beeswing" live from the Edinburgh Fringe, August 2005
This live recording comes from the concert Sandy, Ewan and Ronan played at the Acoustic Music Centre during the 2005 Edinburgh Festival. One of Ewan's favourites for years, ‘Beeswing’ is a true masterpiece of lyrical imagery written by the great Richard Thompson.
