HUGH MACDIARMID’S HAIRCUT
Led by legendary piper, Gary West, presenter of BBC Radio Scotland’s weekly piping programme, ‘Pipeline’, Hugh MacDiarmid’s Haircut were the first ceilidh band to combine bagpipe melodies with modern backing instruments. The band have been gigging for over 25 years since forming at Edinburgh University. Since then, they have played all over the UK and abroad, with several television appearances, and still perform every year on The Mound Stage at the massive Edinburgh’s Hogmanay street party.
Gary West and Colin Matheson played together for many years with well-known Scottish folk band, Ceolbeg. Marcos Watt was leading drummer with City of Edinburgh Pipe Band for many years and has now returned to his original band, The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band. Stan Wilson is a well respected bass player in the Edinburgh scene.

The Haircut’s, as they are affectionately known, have after over 25 years of gigging, finally recorded their first, well-overdue album.
