WORKSHOPS

Short Ceilidh Workshop for 9-17 year olds (45mins)

Learn to dance Scottish-style with famous dance-master and accordion player, Sandy Brechin, who will teach a traditional Scottish “couple dance”, where the dancers are arranged in a circle of pairs, and also a “set dance”, which usually involves groups of six, eight or sometimes more, dancers, arranged into either a circle, a square, or two lines. Both are common dances which you would be likely to experience at a Scottish Ceilidh Dance. The workshop will start by showing the dancers some basic moves which are used in many ceilidh dances, such as: the pas-de-bas step, the skipping step, right and left hand spins and stars, the pirouette, the do-si-do and the polka step. Once everyone has warmed up and has mastered the basics, Sandy will walk the dancers through each dance in turn until they are comfortable with the routines, and finish by playing the music live to accompany the dancers as they show off what they have learned.

No previous experience is necessary – fun and fitness guaranteed!
