Sandy has been the Full-time Accordion Tutor at The National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music, Plockton for the past 20 years, as well as the Specialist External Examiner and a guest tutor at The Royal Conservatoire, Glasgow, and a guest lecturer at the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC), University of Edinburgh.

He has been a regular tutor for Fèisean nan Gaidheal for over 20 years, teaching at: Fèis Rois, Fèis Rois Oigridh, Fèis Dhun Eideann, Fèis an Earraich, Fèis am Ploc, Fèis Lochabair, Fèis o the Mids, Fèis Ghleann Albainn, Fèis Inbhir Narainn, Fèis Bharraigh.
